One of the big problems that I think we all run into, we post FO on Ravelry and then forget to come and update our blogs with finished photos of what we have been working on. Well remember all the Design your own shawl class post I was doing a few months back. Well I finished 2 versions of the shawl and posted them a few months back. I just realized today that I didn't update knitbuddies. So here are the two versions of Metamorphosis. |
Name: Metamorphosis - Version 2 - Ravelry Designer: Priscilla Meredith Fibers: Wollmeise 100% Merino Superwash Needles: 3mm |
Name: Metamorphosis - Version 3 Ravelry Designer: Priscilla Meredith Fibers: Marion Foale 3ply wool yarn - 2 hanks Olive(092) 1 hank Teal(017) Needles: 3mm |
For the second version I tried a new yarn that Knit and Purl was carrying, Marion Foale 3ply wool yarn. I was really impressed by the colours that were available so I just wanted a simple project to try out the yarn. I was really impressed with the stitch definition. |

kitty: homework.... big mistake in the design, time to rip
Hold the presses.... BIG MISTAKE So on paper this didn't look like it would be a big deal. The core stitch patterns were balanced and it flows from the pattern before, but the reality is plain ugly. So back to the drawing board. Reason: 1) There is one stitch difference on the left and right side. I didn't think this would be a big deal but as you can see the right hand side is a nice smooth increase while the left hand side is bunchy and forms awkward lines. 2) There needs to be some holes in this section. It is just to solid for what other wise is a really airy design. So bottom line it is a failure so back to the starting board. I just ripped out stitch pattern 3 and the start of stitch pattern 4 to start over again. :( |

kitty: homework.... part 2 my inspiration board
Images used for inspiration:
Sky and Water II 1938 woodcut - Echer |
My shawl is coming along fairly well. I hit a major snag last night because I ran out of colour 3 in pattern 4 of the linen. So I had to order more yarn from Linnet. Thankfully they actually had the same colour. I know the dye lot will be wrong, but I didn't have a lot of choice. Linnet seems to never really have a full stock on any of there threads and I never catch it when my favorite colours are in stock. Above is the inspiration board that I did for the design and a rough sketch of how I wanted the columns and the cubes to flow and morph into each other. The idea is a play on l ines/ columns and varations of the cube and how it moves or morphs. |
Here is how far I am on the first version of the shawl. I am up to row 96 and on the 4th pattern. |
Since I ran out of yarn I started another version last night to test the pattern. I am using Wollmeise that I picked up at The Loop in London. Not sure how the pattern will turn out, but I am currently really liking how the pattern is moving along. The whole process is making me happy and I am learning a lot. |

kitty: Happy Spring
Happy Spring!!!! The weather has been absolutely crazy we had more than 2 months of rain in 36 hours followed by an ice storm to issue in spring. Of course the 642 people that had car wrecks this morning in central Ohio may not have felt the Easter Bunny will be here soon. That is solid ice on the car, road, and yard. |
There hasn't been much knitting going on. Deadlines have been pretty much taking over my life. Though I must say I have jumped on the Woolmeise band wagon. I can not believe how beautiful the colours are in these socks. |
