  4. You know, I'm not really a shawl person, but I don't know why I never thought to wear one as a scarf. That looks fantastic! Good job!

  6. I came across your blog while looking for pictures of finished Kiris--yours is fabulous! I was thinking of making this in Knit Picks Alpaca Cloud as well--I wondered, is the finished object warm? I was thinking of making it as a wrap to have at a wedding I'm in in May, in a location where it might still be chilly in the evening.

  8. was it hard to begin the shawl? I read the instructions and I'm lost. Are the any good tutorials out there for this shawl? Any good advice you can share?

  9. thank you, Diana!

hi Leslie, starting Kiri is not as hard as it seems at first. if you can cast on provisonally and pick up stitches, you can manage it.

the construction is a little hard to conceptualize. the shawl actually begins as a small rectangle in the middle of the straight/neck edge, then expands from three sides of this rectangle. at the end, what's on your needles is both pointy edges of the shawl at once.

you begin with a 3-stitch wide strip (tiny rectangle) of 14 garter rows. use the 3 stitches on your needles (one side), pick up stitches along one of the side edges (2nd side), then knit the 3 stitches from provisional edge (3rd side).

i don't know of any tutorials, but try it with some scrap yarn, and i'm sure it'll make more sense. feel free to email (knitbuddies AT gmail DOT com) if you get stuck.
