kitty: Finally finished the finishing on Abyss

Name: Abyss Jacket
Designer: Olga Buraya-Kefelian
Pattern Book: Ori Ami Knits
Fibers: Habu Textiles A-1 2/17 Tsumugi Silk / 3 cones of colour # 32 (Avril colour code), 3 cones of colour #40, 6 cones of colour #46 in 2 dye lots
Needles: 5mm / 8

Abyss is finally officially finished. All that is left is to get some FO shots of the sweater. Finally the weather has cooled off enough for me to actually want to wear a silk cardigain again.

It seems like I have been at this one for awhile. The first method I used for sewing down the ribbons was a failure, so I had been putting off trying again. This past week and a half though in my free time I have been doing a ton of handwork to finish it up.

This time I did 12 - 6 inch long linen ribbons for the main tabs and then 12 small 1.4 inch squares for the snap returns.
Then they were stitched down using a locking blanket stitch so that it is possible for the threads to break and it still to not unravel.
The linen ribbons frayed pretty badly. So I hand zigzagged all the ends and then double rowed hemmed them.

kitty: special moments in your life

special moments in one's life.....

Back during TNNA, Olga (Olgajazzy) and Vanessa (Coloursknits) came to visit Knitbuddies during the convention. Here are some of my favorite moments and some of the people I had the honor in meeting.

I even got to go to the first official booksigning for Ori Ami Knits. Wonderknits did a booksigning right before TNNA began.

PS. I stole some of the photos from Olga's Flickr stream. I didn't have a camera during the booksigning.

I am so happy to say that my hardbound copy of Ori Ami Knits arrived a few weeks ago. If you haven't checked it out yet, it is certainly worth a look at either Ori Ami Knits or the group on Ravelry. The pattern collection are the creation of Olga Buraya-Kefelian and Vanessa Yap-Einbun, with two patterns written by Kirsten Johnstone.

The book is absolutely lovely and as you all already know I am addicted to Habu yarns so the book is perfect. The patterns are a little edgy with interesting constructions techniques, but most importantly to me they are available in 10 different pattern size ranges. So even us Rubenesque girls are in luck.

It is so rare that you can find trendy designs that are available for the 32 inch bust as well as the 50 inch bust. So thank you so much girls for treating us all with respect! (It means more than you can imagine. I am so tired of being treated as a second class citizen particularly by indie designers.)

Duplicity marks the second sweater in the book I have started. The first (Abyss by Olga Buraya-Kefelian) is still setting on the shelf behind me waiting for me to sew the last few snaps on and it will be done. But in 80 degree weather the thoughts of a cardigan seem really unnecessary.

For me the book represents a great source of patterns to use up my stash. I have been setting on two bins of Habu yarns looking for a book just like this. Though I love the patterns by Setsuko Torii there are not that many of them on the market and they all begin to look the same. Olga and Vanessa have brought us a new Fresh Outlook on design to use with our much loved fibers.

kitty: Abyss isn't ready for her close up yet, but the final piece of the puzzle just arrived

The Abyss Jacket has been off the needles, sleeves set in, and ends all woven in for a couple of days now. I am so excited about it, but I have had to wait for the linen ribbon to arrive from JP. The other problem is that it has been setting on the blocking board trying to dry for days. Ohio weather has not been kind to this task.

Olga suggests that you run a piece of ribbon behind the snaps/ tabs for added support, but not just any ribbon would do for my special sweater.

kitty: New project on the needle, Abyss by Olga Buraya-Kefelian

Name: Abyss Jacket

It's slowly coming along, though I am not going to make it for St. Patrick's Day (No I wasn't trying for the date, but my neighbor asked me when she saw the sweater while I was taking photos. It really made me laugh). I have about 3 inches before it is time to break for the underarms. So far I am absolutely loving the design and the fabric that it is creating.

Essentially the 4 colours are creating a really complex tweedy green which I am ecstatic about . I can not wait to see how the sweater turns out.

I am quickly in need of some dressy spring clothes so this will be perfect. Beautiful design Olga. :)
