彼に編んであげたい帽子&マフラー (プチブティックシリーズ 462) (大型本) |
It is always so hard to find hip accessories for your SO. M is probably one of the worst I have ever meet and he isn't gracious at all if he doesn't like the gift that he receives either. When I showed him this book on another site he actually said he liked some of the hats. So I immediately bought the book, of course now he is luke warm. There are a lot of really cute male hats and some neat scarves as well. content: scarves and scarves |

Well with such a wonderful habulicious weekend, I needed a new Habu FO. I had been planning on this scarf for awhile and just finally got around to sitting down and knitting it. I really love how the contrast in the two yarns worked out. I had been obsessed with the sample photo ever since I first saw it on the Habu site. So here is my scarf it ended up being 4 inches by about 7 feet. Thanks MG, for such a wonderful Christmas gift. |

Kitty: The Problem
The problem, I have this amazing yarn that I purchased on ebay. I only have three skeins, so a scarf really is my only option at this point to what to do with it. And with as cold as it has been in Ohio, the warmth of a wool scarf is really attractive. Not that I don't love the other scarfs, but warm they are not.
So, I started Vintage Velvet from the scarf book. I had to highly reduce the width since there is no way I have enough yarn. There is only 75 yards on a skein.
The problem is I don't think after knitting skein one, that it really worksI am afraid to say. I love the pattern and I love the yarn, but I think it is time to frog again. What do you think?

Kitty: Rain Rain go away come again in Feb
Is that actually sun light I see outside. Oh wait sunlight anda 40 degree drop in temperature from yesterday, go figure we can not haveboth. The only thing that I can say is my lawn is probably greener than Ihave ever seen it in January. It is pretty scary how high the water is aroundColumbus right now. The Delaware Ohio Dam was opened for the first time in45 years and OSU has sandbagged the river banks to keep the theatre and residenttowers from flooding. Cross your
fingers no more rain!
So I was finally able to take some better photos today of the scarf and gloves that don't have a gray cast to them. See ruffles in all its glory to the right. My husband now has proclaimed it feels and looks like a sea cucumber he wants to eat. Also Check out more glove photos on the project page.
Hopefully it will be half way done by next week. <crossing fingers> I have frogged now twice so hopefully it will get better.

kitty: holiday w/knit buddies
So
I mentioned on the Holiday post that there was lots of knitting in knit buddies
style going on. So enquiring might be wondering what we were working on. Oh,
we can not forget the most important thing we were enjoying the official knit
buddies candy, Shreck M&M's. Well at least for this holiday season. I had
found a bag at Best Buy and I was waiting to share them with Meowgirl. Such
lovely coloured M&M's.
Since Meowgirl had frogged her sweater and left it in CA her little fingers were itching for a new project. So she went through my stash bag to see what she could find to just knit something. She found three balls of Cleo Egyptian Plymouth Cotton that I had originally bought to make a hat sweater about 12 years ago. So she cast on the ruffle scarf from Scarf Style. I secretly think this was a ploy to get me started on the project. Since she knew that after knitting 13 inches I wasn't going to let her frog it. I HATE TO FROG AND SEE PEOPLE FROGGING.
Why
I think this was a ploy she knew I really wanted this scarf. I was terrified
of the short
rows and was afraid that it would look poopie. So at about 13 inches she
taught me how to do short rows. I was shocked really how easy they were to do.
After a few rows I mastered the technique, though I still have not accomplished
knitting backwards. I have to turn it to purl unfortunately. At this point the
possibilities of it being fogged were non-existent. So this has become our first
joint knit buddies project. Meowgirl taught me a new technique and we each knitted
different section. The scarf now measures about 55 inches.
The scarf makes me really happy, our first project together. Next Christmas we will have to do a scarf for Meowgirl to continue this tradition of holiday projects.
We also started another new tradition going to yarn stores together. Though really we should schedule more than 30 minutes to check out a shop.

Kitty: What's on the needles
With
all the holiday shopping I haven't had much time to knit. But I did start a
new project on black friday, and it now measures 7 inches * 110 inches.
To save time I decided to knit it length wise instead of width wise, but I am not to sure how much time I have saved. The weight it a major issues with 275 stitches on the needle my hand get really tired holding it up. The second issue was casting on with long tail method. I read severalsources on how much yarn to leave, but it left me with having to cast on 4 times.
Tip: Take the time to wrap the yarn around the needle for each stitch first then leave 2 yards. 1 yard to sew up your garment at the end. This is the method that seemed to work the best.
Tip2: I also tried Fluffa's tip to place the yarn in the freezer for an hour before knitting to prevent the hair from sticking as badly. It seemed to help a lot during the cast on period, but most of all it is just nice if your hands are usually warm while knitting. On the other knitting fronts: My mom sent me a new pattern hand out for a hip poncho she picked up. I was really touched that she sent it to me. I must admit that I have really been pestering her about knitting questions since I have been getting back into knitting.
Also I think I may be another KnittyGritty convert. I just caught an eppisode last night with Erika Knight as one of the guest. I know meow.meow has been coveting her SimpleKnits with a Twist: Unique Projects for Creative Knitters. I think meow.meow needs one of her recycled-plastic carryalls. She also had the pink slippers on the show, oh meow.meow you need some pink slippers for your apartment.Monday, November 22, 2004
kitty: Scarf projects
A couple of weeks ago meow.meow sent me a link to two knitting blogs (pinku
and fluffa). Though I read other type of blogs daily this the knitting blog world was new to me. Those two sites inspired me to pick up my knitting needles and knit again. But oh crap, I had always used my mom's needles and gotten yarn from my aunts shop. I didn't really realize at the time how lucky and how good I had had it. My mom would cast on for me, bind off, oh and sew my projects together. Though I have knitted quiet a few sweaters and projects over the years I have never done those steps. MOMMY........................................... :(
Ok, so I sat out to find online instructions and quick time to help me learn to cast on and bind off. Not sure what I am going to do when I start my sweater project.
hmmmmmmmmm.. ring. ring. ring. "Hi Mom....I have a huge favor to ask you. If I send you sweater pieces, and return postage for the garment could you please sew it together. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I guess I better not do that, but the thought does cross the mind. She really is a very talented person and crafter who never gives herself the credit she deserves.
So here is my first knitting project in 10 years or so. A scarf out of Colinette's
Enigma in colour Raphael. I added another thin rayon yarn to it to add depth
to the colour way. Not sure what the other yarn was since I bought it in a sale
basket for $2.00. (Thre real reason was that I knit the scarf once and ran out
of yarn.So I must convince myself that it added colour depth.)
I had so much left over of the thin rayon cone I started another scarf. I wanted to practice a lacy stitch and make a dressy jacket scarf. There were some issues, the yarn is very slick so when doing the lacy stitch it was very easy for it to fall off the needles and not be noticed for several rows. So this scarf has been frogged more times than I would like to discuss. There are still problems now that I hold it up to a white wall, but I want to be done with it.

meow: snake scarf

hello! i'm back with knitting to share!
i wanted to make something for my hubby, so he picked out the snake scarf from Knitting Pretty for himself. i splurged on Bouton D'Or Tao yarn (80% wool, 20% kid mohair) in lave and ecume (blue and pale gray), and here is what emerged:
i'm quite pleased with him; he is full of harmless snake-cuteness. the yarn is yummy--soft, lustruous, and lofty. that along with the tubular coil of the stockinette stitch makes for a warm and cuddly scarf. his iridescent blue button eyes give him quite a bit of personality (i have a weakness for button eyes, actually, for buttons in general). look at his friendly face:

my current WIP is another scarf, but more on that later... meow.
