hi there! too-stressed-to-even-knit-a-stitch deadline time is over, and i've even had the benefit of a little trip to loved ones to relax my frayed self. i'm back now. i've missed you, and my fingers have itched for fiber. i dived back into bok choy. all finished, weaved, washed; a brand new pair of socks for me made by me.
i love knitting toe-up, but a well-finished cuff is then an issue. i'm extremely pleased with the hems on this pair. it's the EZ stretchy, sewn bind-off where i picked up a stitch from below at the same time, i.e. hem and bind off at the same time or three-needle version of the sewn bind-off. clean edge; no bulk; barely detectable from the right side; stretchy.
calf shaping employed center back increases--matched M1s on either side of 3 stitches.
Bok Choy socks: pattern: simple stocking-stitch, toe-up, short-row socks. some shaping for custom fit. yarn:vesper self-striping sock yarn in the color crew (thank you, Kitty Kitty! knit yours up!). needles: 2.75mm (US 2) bamboo DPNs; 2.25mm (US 1) for inner edge of picot hem.
random thoughts: my gauge varies greatly based on psychological state; one sock is noticeably smaller and tighter than the other. bok choy does tend to drift downwards; maybe run a bit of elastic into the cuff seam? i wanted cute, quirky, fraternal socks, but now i'm not sure how i feel about that. as the calf shaping increased, the stripes became thinner; this looks a little funny. i love self-striping socks.
knitting a few rows here and there to comfort myself. this is version two of my vesper socks--simple toe-up, short-row, stocking stitch. hubby calls them my bok choy socks.
needed good mojo; made my charm with a coastal redwood seed cone and black seam binding. the cone has since dried brown with open scales. not as pretty now but still i like it. what is it about physical manifestations of psychological struggles?
hubby made me three little egg planters. pin prick the top; make a larger hole at the bottom. blow out egg. clean. fill with dirt and seeds. seal bottom with wax and a piece of paper. i got to crack them open with a spoon. a most delightful present. awaiting my sprouts with totoro thoughts. yume da kedo... yume zya nakatta.
left wintery ohio, where i started a stripey sock with vesper yarn Kitty Kitty gave me (because she is terribly good to me). the color is "crew," i believe. it's toe-up, short-row heel and toe, stocking stitch, back seam increases for the calf.
still head over heels in love with my lendrum; still can't believe i have a wheel of my own. its appeal pulled every member of my family in for a turn at treadling; kitty kitty got a crash course. she needs a wheel; please encourage/pressure her towards her perfect wheel.
i've been spinning Blue Moon Fibers dyed roving and bluefaced leicester top. unfortunately, my little lendrum is in ohio to be sent to me, so the pictorial ode to the lendrum and photos of yarns on the bobbins remain on queue...
but look at my first lendrum-spun FO! it's Blue Moon Fibers roving--no other details b/c the tag was lost somewhere in the shuffle. i drafted a thin single and one of chunky thick-and-thin, both relatively low-twist and spun over the fold like i like to spin everything. the two singles were then plied together chaotically and joyfully. it was play with plying, which was fun and edifying. i think this yarn will become a hat. if you'd like, here is a closer look
biases: british racing & lime green, subfusk colours, clover plastic circulars, yak, habu, fitted sweaters for rubenesque girls, and buttons. Oh and I can not forget Cheetah print.
