Temptations held an event for the launch of Michelle's Knit along with Addi needles and Trekking yarn. Trekking yarn is celebrating there 20th aniversay with a schedul of KAL. The first one Is for a Top down sock using:

Trekking XXL color "Susanne"
Each of the skein sold of the limited edition colour, Skacel will donate $10.00 to the MArsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research. and Karen at Temptations will donate another $2.50 to the research center.

Add for Skacel
20 years of Zitron Trekking Sock Yarn

Not sure I will knit the KAL socks since they are toe up, but I picked up a ball of the yarn to suppor the cause. I am always leary of products for X cancer research, but atleast for this one a lot of the money seems to be going to research.

Michelle also has some pretty nice video's of techniques on her BLOG... Knit Purl Hunter!

  11/5 - Day 3: 0 :(
11/6 - Day 4: Rows 53 - 82

11/8 - Day 6: Rows 91 - 111

11/9 - Day 7: Row 111 - 178
Only 10 more rows left, but I was just to tired to continue knitting last night

PS. All the black and white photos were taken with my phone camera in the middle of the night. So sorry they are not great quality, but I wanted to record the progress.

kitty: mystery stole 3 - cont.

Yarn: Habu Textile : A-81 Kinari 1/6 wool
Content: 100% wool
Weight: Fingering
Needles: US 3 (36 stitches to 4 inches)
Cost: 19.96 for approx 1581 yards

I have been holding out a lot on crafty post as of late. Seems like the world is closing in on time with to many major deadlines, 4th, and then a Gaming Convention to attend. So I have been lax on the post so here is the first of many to come in the next couple of days.

Clue I for Mystery Stole 3, has been completed for a while and I even lightly blocked it to see if I liked the yarn with the pattern. I really like how nicely defined the stitches are in the Kinari yarn. The weight may be a little heavy for the pattern, but certainly not enough to start over again with a different yarn.

The Stole is going pretty quickly I finished the first half of the pattern while standing in line for the iPhone and then the 2nd half while waiting on hold with AT&T to get my phone activated. Given the fact that I was on hold for 8 hours the 2nd half got done in no time at all. Of course then I was left with nothing on the needles and was to frustrated to think about what to knit. (I love the phone, but it took 28 hours for it to get activated so that left a nasty taste in the mouth.)

I haven't decided whether or not I like the pattern yet. I don't dislike it, but I think my control freak side is coming into play. This may not be the kind of KAL for me in the long run. The unknown is giving me fits.

kitty: what ever shall I do?

So the deadline for Mystery Stole 3 is upon us, and the first clue will be posted on Friday. While most people on the list have finalized their choice for yarns, I have more uncertainty than ever.

MG and I got to talking last night and I decided to head her suggestions and swatch some of the yarns in my stash. The original yardage requirements have now been lowered so there are more options available in the stash. Only a few in the correct colour ways (white or black)

The reality of the situation is that I have this great tendency to buy wonderful yarns, but then in the end add them to the stash buckets with the pretense that I am saving them for a wonderful project. Or I make the excuses that I am not worthy of something knitted in xyz yarns or that my skills are not up to par. So yarn sits, I become stressed because the stash is growing and all around I am unhappy. When I should be on cloud nine because I have such a wonderful yarn.

So here goes, swatching from last nights stash diving. I did get my deadline done between swatches. There are a few more if I get time to swatch, but I need to look up a reference tonight for a friend.

Habu - Silk Mohair Kusa - item #: A-32 1/12 silk mohair
60% mohair/ 40% silk
Knit on size 0 US
3 inches by 1.25 inches (30 stitches by 2 pattern repeats)

This yarn is amazing, but I have to be honest to knit with it I really want to know that I am madly in love with the pattern. Size 0 needles are actually a little big to do the K1Slip2.

Ami Ami - Szack
100% Wool
Knit on size 0 US
3.5 inches by 1 inches (30 stitches by 2 pattern repeats)
Whether I have enough yardages to use this yarn is up in the air. I cannot remember how many grams I bought so I would need to weigh. When I first bought this yarn I really was not capable of knitting with it. I felt really accomplished that I have progressed to a skill level that allowed me to knit pretty quickly.

The stitches have nice definition, though upon blocking it really didn't grow much in height just by width.

Habu - Cashmere - item #: A-34 2/26 cashmere
100% cashmere
Knit on size 1 US
3.5 inches by 2.5 inches (30 stitches by 2 pattern repeats)
I have enough yardage in the cream that I posted yesterday.

The yarn was absolutely a dream to work with and I couldn't believe how much the little swatch grew when it was blocked. It is certainly a happy little swatch. The question is do I want to use cashmere for a project I may or may not like?

Habu Textile : A-81 Kinari 1/6 wool
Content: 100% wool
Knit on size 3 US
4.5 inches by 2.25 inches (30 stitches by 2 pattern repeats)
This was the yarn I had originally decided on. I have more than enough yardage; it would be super quick to knit since I could use 3's instead of 1's or 0's. The shawl would be warm for fall, but not airy enough for spring. Cheap yarn investment.

Habu -Discontinued - Bamboo 20/2
100% Bamboo
Knit on 3 US
5 inches by 3 inches (30 stitches by 2 pattern repeats)
I think the guage is far to big for the project at hand.

HELP!!!!!! If you have a favorite let me know. I can not decied.

kitty: mystery stole 3 kal

Yes, it is official I have hopped on the band wagon and joined the Mystery Stole 3 Kal. With oh another 2453 people it looks like. If you haven't signed up yet to join the madness you still have a few days, the starting date is June 29th. (Maybe I can be knitting phase 1 as I stand in line for the iphone that launches at 6pm on June29th!)

I was really disappointed that I didn't find out about Mystery Stole 2 last time around, so when Mia sent me the link I signed up. One of the women in my Maggie Jackson class was knitting it and I fell in love with her shawl.

So we will see what happens.

Yarn:

Habu Textile : A-81 Kinari 1/6 wool
Content: 100% wool
Weight: Fingering
Needles: US 3 (36 stitches to 4 inches)
Cost: 19.96 for approx 1581 yards

I have to say since the pattern is a mystery I really hesitated to spend a lot of money on yarn for the project. The theme is for either a black or white shawl so when I first went looking for yarn the possibilities were huge. Then rational thinking hit what if I hated the pattern. Spending $100+ for some of habu's more exotic amazing offerings seemed risky. So I decided on a simple yarn.

It is amazingly soft, I love how it blocks, and most important inexpensive!
