kitty: Generosity, PIF Memes and the meaning of giving and getting

Katrin posted a couple days ago about a new meme that is starting to float around and the idea really moved me. The meme deals with the meaning of giving and getting.

I have meet so many wonderful people through blogging, some of which have become my dearest friends. MG and I often comment about how it is so weird when you think about how much crafting and a blogging brings us together. So I just wanted to say thank you all for becoming our friends and sticking with us through the good and the bad.

As a whole I think we all love getting mail, well unless it is bills . Nothing excites me more than an unexpected postcard, a surprise brown treasure box, or a card in the mail box. I have received so many treasures in my short blogging life.

So it is time to PAY IT FORWARD!!!!!

“I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don’t know what that gift will be yet and you may not receive it tomorrow or next week, but you will receive it within 365 days, that is my promise! The only thing you have to do in return is pay it forward by making the same promise on your blog.”

And if you are not one of the first 3, please go ahead and leave a comment you too will get something in your mailbox over the next 365 days.

Thank you all!

PS. Don't forget that blogger doesn't always make it easy to find your email. So please leave your blog's url so I can find you.

kitty: The Birthday Meme

Mia sent me a link to: From Sheep to Shawls and Socks blog and she had this wonderful meme posted.

The rules are very simple, go to Wikipedia and type in your birthday (mm/dd) only. Then post 3 events, 2 births, and one holiday that occurred on your birthday. Than tag 5 friends.

So here is my list, it was quiet a musical day.

Events

  1. 1429 - Joan of Arc ends the Siege of Orléans, pulling an arrow from her own shoulder and returning wounded to lead the final charge. The victory marks a turning point in the Hundred Years' War.
  2. 1824 - World premiere of Ludwig van Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Vienna, Austria. Work was conducted by Michael Umlauf, under the deaf composer's supervision.
  3. 1946 - Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering (later renamed Sony) is founded with about 20 employees.
  4. 1992 - Space Shuttle Endeavour is launched on its maiden voyage (STS-49).

Births

  1. 1812 - Robert Browning, English poet (d. 1889)
  2. 1833 - Johannes Brahms, German composer (d. 1897)
  3. 1840 - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Russian composer (d. 1893)

Deaths

  1. 1667 - Johann Jakob Froberger, German composer (b. 1616)
  2. 1793 - Pietro Nardini, Italian composer (b. 1722)
  3. 1800 - Niccola Piccinni, Italian composer (b. 1728)
  4. 1825 - Antonio Salieri, Italian composer (b. 1750)

Holidays

  1. Russia - Radio Day (commemorating the work of Alexander Popov)
  2. Bulgaria - Radio and Television Day
I always feel guilty about tagging people, so if you would like to do it consider yourself tagged. Though Mia (cough, cough, cough Consider yourself tagged) thanks for sending the link. This one is a lot of fun.
