kitty: thanksgiving yarn

THANKSGIVING YARN

Wow, it seems like MG and I have been talking about Pluckyfluff yarns and Lexi Boeger classes for what seems like years now. We both have dreamed of running away for one of her weekends starting soon after we both had wheels. But alas work seems to always get in the way of a lot of the things that I dream and want to do. So I picked up the book in 2006 and tried several of her techniques she outlined.

For Pluckyfluff yarns though, I think a lot of the magic has to do with the batts that she creates or teaches you to create. So right before Thanksgiving I read that Pluckfluff was phasing out the spinning supplies section on the site. My heart sank, the fear of never getting to spin with such wildness set in and I found my self ordering a batt right away. I figured that it would be a rare treat to spin on Thanksgiving. I don't think that either of us will ever knit with it, but at least we could live out a little dream this year together.

The batt arrived nicely packed with lovely tissue paper and the magic was reveled in that paper.
Stretched out, it really does looks a little bit like a trash can filled with the lint on industrial dryers at a laundry matt. If you can think about it, it is probably in that jumbled pile.
3oz spun up so fast... It was pretty crazy. We tried to check both of our control freak aspects at the door and just let the yarn be what ever it chose to be.
Two bobbins filled up pretty darn quickly and we were done.

And a Thanksgiving Yarn was born. We then plyed our yarn with a strand of white Silk and Stainless Steel from Habu. I figured this would serve as a good stabilizer and also give extra details.

PS>Sorry the photos are pretty dark. There is not a lot of light in my living room and we were spinning in the middle of the night.

Also if you have it caught it yet... Pluckyfluff has a new book that is due to be released after the first of the year.

  3. If you won't knit it up, send it to me and I will knit it up for you. I already have a pattern in mind. And I will send it back to you. Maybe....
